Kp 3aa1140700 Optimize out warn_printf on some targets
Some targets only ever use GUI warn functions.  On those targets:
- initialize `warn_func` to `msgbox_warning` at compile time
- remove the runtime initialize of warn_func in main

On targets which do not call `clear_warn_func`, preprocess out its
declaration and definition.

Taken together, these changes allow some targets not to define
`warn_printf`.

Kp c26fd86450 Keep builtin movies loaded until the end of main
Commit d0d7545ec1 ("Unload robot movies on exit") intended to shorten
the lifetime of the loaded data, but failed to save the unique_ptr, so
the lifetime was shortened more than intended.  Save the unique_ptr so
that the movies remain loaded.

Also, add a [[nodiscard]] annotation so that the compiler can warn if
this mistake is repeated.

Kp 76a7361786 Close descent.hog on exit
Add RAII wrappers for unmounting PHYSFS paths.  Use them in places that
previously handled unmounting explicitly.  Also, use it for descent.hog
/ descent2.hog, which previously were left mounted indefinitely.

Kp 1dba8e40ec Move PHYSFSX_addRelToSearchPath pathname to caller
Some callers will need access to the computed path.  Change the callers
to pass in a buffer for this path, and have PHYSFSX_addRelToSearchPath
fill that buffer directly.

Kp 63940def1a Hide -gl_stereo behind #if !defined(RELEASE)
As discussed in pull #582, there are some rough edges to this feature.
Hide the option, but not the functionality, from users until these can
be corrected.  Users who want to experiment with the feature can access
it through the command-line or the in-game hotkeys in any build.  This
change only hides the help text, to prevent users from finding it and
expecting it to be fully finished.

Kp 111b655b09 Remove GM_GAME_OVER
Various sites assign GM_GAME_OVER to Game_mode, but no sites test for
it.  Its only value would be to clear out other flags, but that can be
done by clearing Game_mode.

Kp 46d72a29c0 Retire compiler-begin.h
This was once a compatibility shim, but compiler support for std::begin
has been required since 5e434cbe95 and no
issues have been reported.  Flatten the include tree by removing this
header and using the STL names directly.

Kp 3114874713 Delegate PCX loading to SDL_image
This adds a new dependency, but most systems likely already have
SDL_image installed.  Use of SDL_image can be disabled, but this is
discouraged, because various in-game interfaces assume the use of the
original background.

The old implementation automatically corrected for filename case.  The
new implementation expects that the supplied filename can be passed to
PYHSFS_openRead as-is.  All known uses in-game have been corrected to
satisfy this requirement.  If the new stricter match requirement becomes
a problem, a variant of PHYSFSRWOPS_openRead that adjusts filename case
could be created for use here.

Kp 59b94a4dcb Call arch_close before atexit hooks begin
arch_close calls various library shutdown routines, some of which may
not be in good order after atexit hooks begin executing.  Call it before
returning from main, so that the libraries are still fully initialized.

Kp e2a108bbf5 Use base32 instead of base64+extended-identifiers
Extended identifiers have proved to cause more problems than they solve.
Switch to base32 which, while less commonly supported, is available in
Python and uses an alphabet that is almost a subset of the C identifier
alphabet.  Padding characters are still a problem, but can be remapped
to a valid C identifier that is not a valid base32 character.

Kp e7275f8a8c Align capitalization of Data directory in instructions with the code
Commit e6169f17f9 switched from searching `Data/` to searching
`data/`.  For users on case-insensitive filesystems, this is a no-op and
the instructions that reference the `Data` directory continue to work.
For users on case-sensitive filesystems, the change broke accessing the
data directory, and caused the instructions to mislead.  Given the age
of the commit, fixing the capitalization now will likely cause more
problems than it solves.  Instead, fix the capitalization of the
instructions, so that users who follow the documentation get a working
setup.

Kp 7558795edd Fix sharepath confusion when building both targets
Processing sharepath in SConf is incorrect, because targets can share a
build directory (and therefore an SConf run), but not share a sharepath.
Move sharepath handling out of SConf.  Move DXX_USE_SHAREPATH handling
from CGameArg to GameArg, since one game can be built with a sharepath
while the other is built without.

Kp f491059ed7 Enable building with SDL2
This commit enables Rebirth to build with SDL2, but the result is not
perfect.

- SDL2 removed some sticky key support.  Rebirth may behave differently
  now in this area.
- SDL2 removed some key-repeat related support.  Rebirth may behave
  differently now in this area.
- SDL2 gained the ability to make a window fullscreen by sizing it to
  the desktop instead of by changing the desktop resolution.  Rebirth
  uses this, and it mostly works.
  - Resizing while in the automap does not notify the automap code, so
    the view is wrong until the player switches out of automap mode and
    back in.
- SDL2 changed how to enumerate available resolutions.  Since
  fitting the window to the desktop is generally more useful than
  fitting the desktop to the window, I chose to drop support for
  enumerating resolutions instead of porting to the new API.  Users can
  now enter an arbitrary window dimension and Rebirth will make an
  attempt to use it.
  - It might be useful to cap the window dimension at the desktop
    dimension, but that is not done yet.
  - Entering fullscreen mode through the Controls->Graphics submenu
    failed to notify the relevant subsystems, causing the rendered
    content not to rescale.  For now, compile out the option to toggle
    full screen through that menu.  Toggling through Alt+Enter works
    properly.

Despite these quirks, this is a substantial improvement over the prior
commit, where SDL2 cannot be used at all.  The remaining issues can be
resolved in future work.

Kp 20f1934312 Move Redbook audio behind DXX_USE_SDL_REDBOOK_AUDIO
Currently, DXX_USE_SDL_REDBOOK_AUDIO is an alias for !SDL2.  However,
this patch enables interested users to readily patch out Redbook even
for SDL1.

Kp 2f4524d3c2 Add screenshot=none to disable screenshot support
Per comment from kreator, some Apple systems now ship without a working
print screen key.  It makes no sense to provide print screen support
bound to a key which does not exist.  Add `screenshot=none` and activate
it on OS X to remove the unreachable screenshot support.

Kp 09cebc080c Undefine blank SHAREPATH
If user_settings.sharepath is configured to be blank in SConstruct, omit
the C preprocessor macro SHAREPATH instead of defining it to expand to
an empty string.  Adjust the C++ code that uses the macro SHAREPATH to
handle its absence:
- Clearer output in help text
- Skip adding blank SHAREPATH to the PhysFS search path.

As a nice side effect, this enables SHAREPATH on Windows, which could be
helpful for builds shipped with an installer that places game files in a
well-known location (such as "C:\Games\Descent").  Previously,
!defined(__unix__) systems did not add SHAREPATH to the PhysFS search
path, even when one was defined.

derhass 38815ba10b change SYNC_GL_AUTO mode to disable GL sync if VSync is turned off
Users with disabled VSync might not expect any forced waiting on the GPU,
and the GL sync methods were intented to fix issues with VSync only,
so the new heuristic for SYNC_GL_AUTO is to enable GL sync only if
VSync is enabled, too.

Users can still request to use a specific GL sync method via the
-gl_syncmethod switch, independent of the VSync setting.

[Kp: folded `else { if () }` into `else if ()` to avoid moving
`ogl_have_ARB_sync` lines.  Original change visible at

Kp 49c0cdae2e Simplify calls to gr_set_default_canvas
Rather than use an inline wrapper and rely on the compiler optimizer to
redirect gr_set_current_canvas(nullptr) to gr_set_default_canvas,
rewrite all relevant calls directly in the source.

Kp 3340a6c16c Report compiled/loaded library versions at verbose level
When reporting use of SDL_mixer, report its loaded version.  When
running in verbose mode, report both the compile-time and load-time
versions of PhysFS, libSDL, and SDL_mixer.
