Emacs 26.1 will introduce a new native line numbers feature:
"display-line-numbers". It includes relative line numbers, is faster than
current linum-mode, and doesn't use the margin area (it has its own area). So
yeah, we want to use the new feature when possible.
No changes are required on the user side, except for Emacs 26 users are
recommended to remove nlinum layer from their configuration (if they have
enabled it).
With this change:
- Emacs 26:
- uses display-line-numbers by default.
- linum and linum-relative packages are excluded.
- Emacs 25:
- does NOT use display-line-numbers.
- continues to use linum and linum-relative.
- nlinum layer:
- can still be used as before in Emacs 25.
- is NOT recommended in Emacs 26, but can be used.
- when enabled, excludes display-line-numbers.
Also contains some bug fixes:
Fixes a bug where setting `dostpacemacs-line-numbers` to `t` or `relative`
enabled line numbers in every buffer, instead of only in buffers that derive
from prog-mode and text-mode.
Likewise fixes a bug where specifying `:enabled-for-modes nil` (or not
specifying `:enabled-for-modes` at all) in `dotspacemacs-line-numbers` settings
meant "enable in all modes" instead of "enable in modes derived from prog-mode
or text-mode".
Because of this change, also adds a way for users to enable line numbers
in *all* buffers.
Removes check for special buffer. All our current checks should be enough to
enable line numbers only where it makes sense. Disabling in all special buffers
is not necessary.
The `spacemacs//helm-navigation-ts-set-face` function had been changed to call
the face `spacemacs-helm-navigation-ts-face` with `-ts-`, but the face
definition was still called `spacemacs-helm-navigation-ms-face` with `-ms-`.
Using `(push (org-projectile-todo-files) org-agenda-files)' would occur error shown below when entering org-agenda-mode.

`(org-projectile-todo-files)' returns a list of files.
`push' function would make the list a new ELT of `org-agenda-files' rather than merging members into it.
But `org-file-menu-entry' only accept file path string as parameter.
When using spacemacs/run-pandoc to open the pandoc hydra, pandoc-mode
is called each time, which will overwrite any previous changes the user
might have done to pandoc--local-settings.
Fix this by calling pandoc-mode only when it is not yet enabled.
Jabber alert function should accept an optional second argument containing a
title of the message. The function mimic the default implementation of
jabber-alert-echo by showing the title if it is present and a message body
otherwise.
This commit fixes an error which is thrown when jabber receives a new notification:

In spacemacs//toggle-shell-auto-completion-based-on-path, re-enable
automatic suggestions by restoring company-idle-delay to the value of
auto-completion-idle-delay rather than to a hardcoded value.

Unfortunately preactivating yasnippet while dumping double the loading time.
Not sure why exactly the loading time doubles, it should no be the case.
So for now we only require the library and let the hook for activate it.
For now we have an issue with invalid XMP image format when dumping.
So we force utf-8 separator.
spaceline-compile is really long and not really necessary for regular users.
Advanced users must explicitly call spaceline-compile in their dotfile and be
ready to pay a 0.5s penalty when loading emacs.
The byte compiler doesn't know about `smartparens-strict-mode' because
smartparens is lazy loaded, so wrap the variable reference in `bound-and-true-p'
to silence a warning that appears on Spacemacs startup.
To reproduce:
1. Install a fresh Spacemacs from develop branch
2. Use spacemacs-base distribution
3. Select only these configuration layers: spacemacs-editing python
4. Restart Emacs to install packages
5. Restart Emacs again and observe warning:

Needs to use `pre-init` function in order to have the variable
spacemacs-web-beautify--modes to be populated before the init function of
web-beautify is actually called.
Before the display system is initialized, we cannot reliably make font
measurements so the height will be incorrect. This lead to display artefacts
if emacs was started in daemon mode without a graphical interface and later a
graphical client was connected (so for example, if you do `emacs --daemon`
followed by `emacsclient -c`).
Reduce the width of the listed key bindings by:
Moving the range and highlighted symbols counter to the right of the transient
state title.
Shorten some key description names.
Reduce three instances of "search" to just one.
And reorder the listed keys based on their search scope, small to large:
swoop, buffers, files, project.
The ledger-mode maintainers removed ledger-set-month and ledger-set-year to fix
https://github.com/ledger/ledger-mode/issues/36. This was done in commit
782014ae.
The finance layer still had key-bindings pointing to these functions, that are
no longer defined, leading to errors when executing one of those bindings. This
simply removes the bindings to avoid confusion.

:append-hooks controls wether we add the hooks to major mode hook variable
:call-hooks conrols wether we execute the created hooks function right away
Basically for multiple backends setup we want to pass :append-hooks to nil and
:call-hooks to t.
Reverting a buffer could put multiple entries of the same backend in the buffer
local `company-backends` variable.
This is due to the fact that we mutate `company-backends-xxxx-mode` variable
with:

Solution is to add a new variable that won't be mutated when we add the support
for snippets.
When multiple modes where provided to macro spacemacs|add-company-backends along
with variables, only the first mode was taken into account as the `variables`
variable was nil after the first interation on `modes`.
This commit switches the keybindings for `xclipboard-copy` and `xclipboard-paste` to `SPC x y` and
`SPC x p` respectively, as it appears these were incorrectly assigned the other way around.
The X clipboard allows a user to copy and paste content between different X
windows, e.g. copying text from Chrome into a Terminal. Copy/pasting with the X
clipboard it well supported in GUI Emacs, but not so well in terminal Emacs
(i.e `emacs -nw` or `emacsclient -t`) without resorting to using the mouse,
since terminal Emacs has no awareness of X. There are several incomplete Elisp
solutions out that work for the most part, but may not have cross-platform
support, or may fail over SSH with X forwarding or within a `tmux` session.
This layer adds support for OSX, Linux, Windows, and Cygwin using the relevant
binary on each system. For example on Linux, it uses `xsel` or `xclip` to
interface with the clipboard, depending which one is available. It also adds
support for ssh'ing into a different OS with X forwarding via `ssh -Y hostname`,
and copy/pasting to and from a remote terminal Emacs. It also supports an edge
case of continuing to work in an Emacs instance running inside a `tmux` session
which may have been started by a different ssh session, which relies on
explicitly reseting the `$DISPLAY` environment variable before calling the
relevant binary.

Tried to add xclip support but removed it since it freezes.
We have key bindings to create two and three column
window layers.
This commit makes available a key binding to return to
the default spacemacs window layer, the single column one.
This idea is to have the spacemacs-base distribution only configure defaults for
built-in packages. Those buit-in packages are now configured in the new layer
spacemacs-defaults.
Additionally some other packages of spacemacs-base have been dispatched to
better suiting spacemacs layers.
Projectile has been moved to the new layer spacemacs-project

This reverts commit 29c78ce841 and all other fixes
that have been made afterwards.
The motivation is that use-package is seen by many as a replacement for
`require`. Is use-package always defer the loading of packages then is breaks
this use case, this does not respect POLA so even if it was making Spacemacs
loading faster (up to 3s faster on some startup on my machine) we just cannot
use it, it would be irresponsible. Spacemacs should be easy to use, loading
performance will come with time but it is not a priority.
It appears that 29c78ce changed `:defer t` to be the default for
use-package, and that previously the `treemacs` and
`treemacs-projectile` packages in treemacs/packages.el specified `:defer
t`, but *not* `treemacs-evil`. Restoring `:demand t` (previously the
default) to `treemacs-evil` appears to fix#10422.
